You can check out your Windows version by typing in winver in Run. The update applies many fixes and improvements for the operating system, therefore we suggest that you install it using the given guide below. Installing KB5007253 will upgrade your operating system’s build to 1904x.1387. Microsoft’s document says that the builds are updated to 1904x.1382. However, in another post, it is stating that the current build number being offered is 1904x.1387 for WIndows 10. We have confirmed that it is in fact 1904x.1387 by installing the update ourselves. If you have been following our post, you may notice that KB5007253 had been published earlier for Insiders on the Release Preview channel, TWICE! The update was first released on 16 November 2021 that upgraded your build to 1904x.1379 for Windows 10 version 21H2 and 21H1. The same update was then republished on 18 November 2021 with another fix added to the list of improvements, which upgraded your build to 1904x.1381. However, installing the update KB5007253 on the stable release of Windows 10 increases the build number when compared to the Release Preview channel. This update is an “Optional Preview Update,” which means that it will not be installed automatically, but only when you choose to. Let us now continue to see what the update improves.
Improvements and Fixes
KB5007253 brings all the fixes and improvements that were implemented for the devices on the Release Preview channel earlier, listed here and here. It also fixes another issue that has not been listed previously. The update also fixes an issue that prevents applications from opening after attempting to repair them using the Microsoft Installer (MSI), such as Kaspersky. This update also improves the Servicing Stack – a key component in delivering these updates via Windows Update to the end-users. It is to ensure that you have a smooth upgrading experience.
Known Issues
Here is what Microsoft knows so far about what’s wrong with this release: An issue with the standalone (clean) installation of Windows 10 with this update is causing Microsoft Edge Legacy to be removed. However, it is not being replaced by the new Chromium-based Edge. This occurs only when Windows has a custom offline media or an ISO image installed that does not include the 29th March 2021 SSU update. Microsoft suggests that you either install the March SSU update through slipstreaming or simply update an existing OS through Windows Update, so you will not be facing this issue. Alternatively, you can simply download and install the new Microsoft Edge if you have already encountered this problem. Another issue that users might face with this update is that they are unable to install it entirely. This may be because of a previously installed update KB5003690. If that is the case, you can find a workaround for it here in Microsoft’s post. Users may also see an error message “Your credentials did not work. The credentials that were used to connect to (device name) did not work. Please enter new credentials” when connecting to devices in an untrusted domain using Remote Desktop while using smart card authentication. Microsoft has found a temporary fix around the issue which you can find here.

Windows Update
To install this update via Windows Update, you need to be running Windows 10 version 21H2, 21H1, 20H2, or 2004 on the stable channel. To check your version of the operating system, type in winver in Run and press Enter. Once the details are confirmed, navigate to the Settings app and then click Windows Update on the left. Then click Check for Updates on the right side of the page. Rollback/Uninstall Windows 10 Preview Update
